FAQ 〰️

Maybe your extensions journey is just beginning, or maybe you’ve been wearing hair for years!

Either way, there’s a lot to know, so I hope that this page can answer any questions that might come up as you’re digging for more info!

  • Hand-tied hair extensions are wefts of hair that are tied to a string by a human instead of a machine. This prevents bulkiness at the scalp to ensure that your hair lays flat against your head with the ultimate flexibility and dimensional color creativity.

Check out the link above for a thorough explanation of how IBE is different (and why I love it so much!)

  • Pricing is different for everyone and is dependent on what your overall hair goals are. Take a look at the different pricing scenarios on the New Guest page for some examples! If you’d like to proceed with the consultation process, you will receive a custom installation quote at the in person consultation.

  • That looks different for everyone, but generally you can expect to add one row for fullness, two rows for fullness and a few inches of length and three rows for anyone with extremely blunt or thick hair looking to add a lot of length.

  • Yes, I use 100% human hair for every installation. I primarily stock premium quality wefts by Kitsune, The Reserve, and The ONE by IBE, so I’m always ready to create just about any look when needed!

  • I will typically schedule your first reinstall appointment at 7 weeks. At that time, we will evaluate your grow-out and determine if you can or want to go longer in between appointments. I have some clients that prefer reinstalls around 6 weeks, the average is 8-9 weeks, and I have a few that prefer 10-11 weeks.

  • We will discuss maintenance and home care in depth during your consultation and install appointment and I will send you home with resources as well. But here is an excellent article if you’d like to be even more prepared, which is always a good thing!

  • For most guests, I want to see hair longer than your chin, but it really depends on what your goals are. Typically, your shortest layer must be to your chin bone in the front and the occipital bone in the back to make sure your wefts don't show.
Very short hair typically requires an intentional styling routine to ensure that the extensions stay blended, but just about anything is possible!

  • I use bead and string. That's it! No messy glue or tape involved.

  • A majority of the individuals that send me consultation requests are able to wear hand-tied extensions with no issue. With the IBE method I’m able to create a very comfortable and flexible foundation that can be safely worn on very fine hair.
However, if your hair is too sparse to hide the row or if you are actively shedding a lot of hair, there may be other alternatives that would be a better fit for your needs. Feel free to still fill out the consultation linked on the New Guest page and I’ll be happy to give you an honest evaluation and provide the best options for your hair!

  • Absolutely. Actually, there's pretty much no way you can't style your hand-tied hair extensions. Low ponys, top knots, braids, messy buns, half-up styles... we encourage it all!

  • You sure can! If you're going to be highly active or swimming, I suggest securing your hair with a braid or ponytail to prevent any tangling. Chlorine and salt water is not very extension friendly, but additional care before and after water activities can be taken if needed. Don't worry, I’ll provide you with all the aftercare information you'll need to take care of your extensions!

  • Quality hand-tied hair will last on average 6-12 months. With proper styling care and the proper use of professional hair products, you can pretty easily get one year out of your hair. Lighter colored hair tends to need replacement sooner than dark hair, as it has gone through more chemical processes. Some of my clients like to replace a couple of wefts at time throughout the year, while others prefer to get a fresh set when needed.

  • Yes and no. Let's be honest here. In most cases, you're likely doubling or tripling the amount of hair on your head. We can't deny that it would take longer to dry or style that. BUT your extensions will hold their style FOR DAYS. Most of my extension clients have been able to reduce the amount of times they wash and style their hair per week. Your morning routine will be a breeze when you only have to touch-up a few pieces of hair.

  • The color of your extensions wefts will need to be refreshed occasionally, and the frequency will depend on several factors. Home care, products used, heat styling, sweat, and hard water will all contribute to the longevity of your hair extensions.

On average, you could expect to need a color refresh on your wefts every other or every third reinstall.

  • Nope! I have some clients that prefer to minimize chemicals in their personal care routines, so I do not color their natural hair. I do color the extensions to match as closely as possible, and the extension color typically needs to be refreshed every second or third reinstall depending on home care routines and reinstall schedule.

  • Usually yes! It depends on a few different factors, mainly if your current stylist is ok with doing your color with your rows installed, then I am too! I actually have several extensions clients that still see their colorist for a variety of reasons (relationship, pricing, scheduling, etc) and I am happy to collaborate with them. We can discuss your ideal color plan at your consultation, and I’m always happy to work with your stylist if it’s the best fit for your hair goals.

  • There are a few instances where you can, but a majority of the time, new clients will need new hair with their first IBE install. If the hair you are wearing is truly hand-tied wefts and is still new and in good condition, I’m happy to take a look at it to determine if I would be able to use it.
There are SO many different types of wefted extensions on the market, and some of them are too large to be compatible with the installation method I use.

  • Nope! I can create a completely seamless blend between your natural hair and the extension hair by custom coloring, cutting to blend, and complementing your natural hair thickness. The beaded foundation is strategically hidden, so no one ever knows you're wearing extensions, even when it's pulled up.
